Georgia State Record for Yellow Perch
One ounce bests previous state record for yellow perch for the state of Georgia. Thomas Lewis reeled in a two-pound, nine ounces, and 16.5 inch yellow perch on Feb 27. This beat the former state record by one ounce. The fish was caught out of the Savannah River, just below Clarks Hill Dam.
The average yellow perch is around half a pound. A good size fish is around 1 to 2 pounds and 12 to 15 inches long. Yellow Perch can be caught on a variety of live and artificial baits. They are almost tropical in appearance. They have yellow sides that taper down to a white belly. They are also overlaid with six to eight bands of green that goes down the top of the back. The lower fins are bright orange.
