Latest Fishing Reports for Monroe Lake

Lake Monroe is a reservoir located about 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Bloomington, Indiana. The lake is the largest in Indiana with 10,750 acres (44 km˛) of water spread over the counties of Monroe and Brown. It is also home to 13,202 acres (53 km˛) of protected forest and three recreational areas (Fairfax, Hardin Ridge, and Paynetown). Indiana's only federally protected U.S. Wilderness Area, the 13,000-acre (53 km2) Charles C. Deam Wilderness Area, is located on the south shore.

The fishing was slow in the morning, but we caught lots of little fish. Mike and Ed also brought home 18 nice crappie, caught on Nothead jigs, Kalin grubs, and Blakemore Roadrunners.

The day was cold and the water was muddy. John and Ric caught 15+ slab crappie on the east end using Blakemore Slabdaddies and Nothead jigs.

The air temperature was cool and the water temperature was in the mid-40's. Travis, Cole, and Shayne caught over 150 crappie, with 4 nice slab crappie. The fish were caught on minnows and Nothead jigs. Good job, boys!

December 16th, 2012 - The weather was cloudy with air temperature in the low 50s. The water temperature was in the mid-40s. We caught 7 wipers that weighed up to 3 pounds each and 30 crappie, with the largest at 14 inches. We also caught around 100 yellow bass, which were all released. The fish were caught on Nothead jigs, Kalins grubs, and Blakemore Roadrunners.

Water temperature at 8:00 am was 48 degrees. The fishing was a little slow at first, but the fish starting biting about 10:00 am and continued until dark. We caught wipers, yellow bass, largemouth bass, walleye, and 10 slab crappie and 25 smaller ones between 10 and 12 inches long. All fish were caught on Nothead jigs, Blakemore Roadrunners, and Kalins grubs.
