Trinity Lake, previously called Clair Engle Lake, is a lake on the Trinity River formed by the Trinity Dam and located in Trinity County, California, The dam was built by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. The lake has a capacity of 2,447,650 acre-feet (3.02 km³), making it one of the largest reservoirs in California. The lake's surface is at an elevation of 2370 feet. Trinity Lake captures and stores water for the Central Valley Project, which provides the Central Valley with water for irrigation and produces hydroelectric power. This lake is known for its many small arms, glassy inlets, and great water skiing conditions.
No changes here yet. The rainbow bite has been good on Sep's sidekick with a threaded nightcrawler on the surface or a blue Wiggle Hoochie. No real koke bite yet. Right now it's all about the bass.
The river has cleared and dropped, but fishing was still challenging because of the cold water. However, the warmer rain should raise water temperatures a bit, melt most of the snow, and bring some brighter winter fish upriver. Fresh fish were being seen down toward Del Loma, while darker steelies and even some downrunners were more predominant upriver from Douglas City.
Our state record has been set on this lake for king Salmon again....for the second time this month. The same pro guide brought in another large Inland King Salmon at over 8 lbs! Gotta get out there again soon! The lake is very full for this time of the year and the weather is holding for the late season action.
9/17/2011 The lake is still holding and not that far down for this time of year. Trout biting from 25 ft to 40 ft down. took home one 14" rainbow, released 2 others. Got hit with something big at 100ft down, but didn't get it in the boat.
9/6/2011 On this date the state record was set for inland King Salmon at Trinity Lake. I think the official weight was 7.69lbs. The trophy King was caught by a pro guide at a depth of 60ft using a sling blade and a 2" apex.
9/13/2011 Nice 14+ lbs King Salmon caught by a guy named Fred below the lake in the trinity river while fishing from the shore. It was caught in the river, not the lake, but was a very impressive fish. It did not come out of the lake, but if you wanna "know your lake" you gotta know the whole area.
8/3/11 Lake is still going down. reports on the dock of 12 - 14" bass. trout bite is still deep or near the tributaries. Some artificial bass habitat is now exposed.
8/20/2011 The lake is still near the top, but not for long. Trout bite down around 40 ft.
