Latest Fishing Reports for Douglas Lake

Douglas Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the French Broad River in Sevier County, Tennessee, in the southeastern United States. The dam is operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), which built the dam in record time in the early 1940s to meet emergency energy demands at the height of World War II. Douglas Dam is a straight reinforced concrete gravity-type dam 1705 feet (520 m) long and 202 feet (62 m) high, impounding the 28,420-acre (11,500 ha) Douglas Lake. The dam was named for Douglas Bluff, a cliff overlooking the dam site prior to construction.

Full pool 990 feet. Lake level is at 993 feet, down 1˝ feet from last week. Water temperatures are in the low to mid 80s. Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass — Good. The Heartland Angers Tournament out of the dam last week took over 24 pounds to win with three limits over 20 pounds. Deep-diving crank-bait and Carolina-rigs are accounting for numerous fish. The drop-offs on the tips of long points have been productive areas. Fish are being caught as deep as 45 feet. Crappie — Good. Most creeks are producing catches. Rock walls along the main channel on the lower end of the lake are holding fish also. Fish are being found trolling 12-15 feet deep or jigging on bluff banks in 8-10 feet of water. Minnows under floats and crappie spinners tipped with green, yellow or black bait and small spoons are finding fish.

There is a lot of trash and logs floating due to the rapid rise in water level. Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass — Good. The spawn is underway and the bite is inconsistent. Crank-bait, jerk-baits, Rat’l-Traps, spinner-baits, Carolina-rigs and the Alabama-rig are catching fish. The mouths of creeks have been productive areas. Walleye and Sauger — Fair. Catches of both sauger and walleye remain fair in the up-river sections of the lake but are declining. Green jigs tipped with minnows are popular. Crappie — Good. Nina Creek as well as the big mud flat at the mouth of Indian Creek continue to produce. Rock walls along the main channel on the lower end of the lake are holding fish also. Fish are being found trolling 12-15 feet deep or jigging on bluff banks in 8-10 feet of water. Minnows under floats and crappie spinners tipped with green, yellow or black bait and small spoons remain popular.

Full pool 990 feet. Lake level is just under 969 feet, up almost 12 feet from last week. Water temperatures range from the mid 50's to near 60 in some shallow areas. The main channel is clear with all creeks being stained. Largemouth Bass-Good. All creeks with color have warmer water and the action is really good.
