The lake is at summer pool, clear and around 76 degrees. Bass appear to be nearing the end of the spawn. Plastics in melon and green pumpkin are catching good numbers of keeper size fish with the occasional big fish. Try the outside points of spawning areas. Walleye fishing has been good over the last few days. Windy points are most productive. Try drifting crawlers around 8 to 10 feet. Crappie are being caught casting curly tails and tubes along shoreline cover. White bass are also taking spinners and grubs. White or chartreuse works well. A few quality bluegill are being caught on crickets, worms or popeye jig/wax worm combinations. Black or brown works well. Give catfish a try in the upper river. The Cane Run area can be very productive. Livers, dough baits and crawlers are fish catchers. Fish the edges of channel bends and bars.
Recent rains have lowered the surface temps at Nolin into the upper 70's. Bass fishing is picking up as well. Good numbers of spotted bass are biting topwater baits, spinner baits and small crankbaits off rocky banks. Largemouth are taking jigs, plastics and crankbaits in the creeks. Shad or bluegill pattern crankbaits have been most productive. Plastics in the melon/red flavor have been good. Shaky heads have been productive with finesse worms, craws and tubes. White spinnerbaits in 3/16 oz. are most productive as are prop baits for spots. The lake is at summer pool with draw down to begin in mid October.
The surface temps remain in the mid 80's at Nolin. Fishing is fair. bass are taking plastics and jigs around 15 feet. Channel banks and bends have been holding good numbers of fish. Crankbaits have been productive off points. Crappie and white bass fishing is slow. As the water cools, expect fishing to improve quickly over the next few weeks.
White bass fishing appears to be the best bet this week. Try casting spoons and spinners into the jumps early and late in the day when the lake is calm. Bass fishing has shifted to the night bite. Plastics and jigs have been producing around 15 feet off points and steep banks. Walleye fishing is always a challenge. Trolling shad pattern crankbaits seems to be the best bet. Nolin is at pool, clear and in the low to mid 80's.
Lake temperatures are in the mid 80's and fishing activity has shifted to the typical early morning, late evening and at night. Largemouth are biting topwater baits in scattered jumps. Plastics and jigs are catching fish from deeper banks at around 15 feet. Melon/red is a popular flavor with the fish. White bass are taking spinners and spoons in scattered jumps. Bluegill are biting good on meal worm/popeye combinations. Cats are taking liver and prepared baits from rocky banks late and at night. Try using a 1/0 circle hook to increase your rate of hook-ups.
Bass fishing has slowed a bit as the larger fish are in a post spawn transition period. Good numbers of fish up to three pounds are still being caught. Plastics and jigs fished around 10 feet deep off points are working well. Green pumpkin, brown and melon appear to be the flavors of the week. The topwater bite early and late is good. The lake is at summer pool, clear and around 80 degrees.
